Lizzie Sky Hall is a Scarborough-based painter working primarily in oils and oil pastel. Her work is driven by a love of rich, glowing colour, bold design, and the expressive possibilities of pattern, line, and form.

Her paintings move between animals, people, places, and abstraction, often exploring the relationships that exist between beings, objects, and spaces. Through colour, placement, proximity, and shared presence, Lizzie creates works that suggest connection, companionship, tension, exclusion, belonging, and the quiet narratives that emerge between individuals and their surroundings.

Working intuitively, Lizzie creates paintings that are emotionally led rather than strictly descriptive. Her work often carries a dreamlike or spiritual quality, using colour as mood and form as a way of conveying presence, feeling, and the unseen dynamics between beings.

Originally trained at Epsom Art School, Lizzie went on to study Theatre Design at Croydon Tech, later continuing her development through life drawing classes at Brighton University Art School, portfolio preparation at Chelsea School of Art, a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, and an Oil Painting Diploma at the Norfolk Painting School.

Alongside her painting practice, Lizzie has a background in design, having made hats and theatre costumes during the 1980s and early 2000s. Her experience as a life model has also shaped her sensitivity to the figure, gesture, stillness, and the presence of the body in space.

Since 2021, she has focused on her work as a painter, now working from her home studio in Scarborough.

Influenced by artists including Van Gogh, Joan Eardley, Matisse, Klimt, Munch, and Monet, Lizzie’s paintings combine a vivid colourist sensibility with a strong graphic element.
